Attractions

Winery

La Petite Vigne is a boutique wine estate, 3,3 hectares in extent, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon. The size of the farm allows us to focus on excellence in the vineyard and the winery and to work at developing hand-crafted wines with depth and character.

La Petite Vigne is the realisation of Cyril Shands dream to own a small vineyard and produce limited quantities of good quality wines, hand-crafted with dedication and care.  The farm itself was ear-marked as our perfect place to be when we first walked past it, up and down the Uitkyk street hill, on visits to Franschhoek a small fascination developed into a grand passion and there was great joy when destiny intervened and the property became ours a few years later.

Traditional processes are used in the winemaking and maturation takes place in French oak barrels.

Our wines :

La Petite Vigne 2004, Cabernet Sauvignon Maiden Vintage
The first vintage off the farm was produced in 2004. We are very pleased with the way in which this wine has developed. It is a full bodied red wine, matured in French oak for sixteen months.  The wine is complex, has soft tannins, is dark and ripe with hints of vanilla, berries and spices.

Platter 2009 gives the wine a 3.5 star rating and says:
"Old fashioned in a positive sense - slightly savoury, good fruit, smooth, fine concentration".

Cybercellar's description: "Garnet, Ruby with a touch of brick edge coming through. A complex nose of ripe dark cherries and plums with cinnamon, oak and caramel. Earthy with dark berries and a hint of black pepper. Good balance with light moderate tannins and a fairly long finish with a touch of heat."

La Petite Vigne "Kendal 2008", Semillon
Produced from the finest quality Semillon grapes grown in the Franschhoek Valley and bought in by La Petite Vigne for processing in the winery.  An exclusive quantity of 1000 bottles produced. Subtle flavours of Pineapple, lemon, pear and herbs.

Delicious!
