Manley is all about warmth, quality and good old-fashioned value. Come and visit us and discover how Manley Wine Lodge can make a weekend break, a wedding or your next conference just 'a little special'. Wines Tulbagh was originally a relatively small, white wine producing region. It was regarded by many as the lesser cousin to the more established areas of Stellenbosch and Paarl. All that changed on September 29th 1969 when an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale virtually levelled the town. It was rebuilt in the faithful style you see today and with its rebirth came a new determination in the people of the town. Fast forward to 1999 when Dave (Manley) Jordan along with some of the other local producers established the very first of the new farms to plant red wine grapes. Today Tulbagh is no longer in the shadows. It has become highly regarded, in South Africa and abroad, emerging as a wonderful boutique region, one producing some of the most significant red wines in the Cape. Accommodation Parts of Manley Wine Lodge hotel date back to the 1860s. Fortunately those parts do not include the plumbing which is all very modern and fully functional, offering distinctive accommodation in Tulbagh. The main thatched Manor House, unlike most of the buildings in Tulbagh, does not follow the classic Cape Dutch design but reflects rather the French Huguenot homes of the late 19th century, an honest and homely character. A short walk across the lawns from the thatched Manor House reception, dining and lounge areas we have 7 large luxury double (or twin) rooms, with both bath & shower en suite, TV & DSTV, air-conditioning, tea/coffee facilities, and bar fridges. The rooms are arranged around a shaded courtyard adjacent to the pool. Most of our rooms also have their own fireplaces, making them especially cosy in winter when we have been known to get a dusting of snow on the mountains. Christmas in Winter! FacilitiesFood We are very particular about the food we serve because we eat it as well. And we like to eat well. Wholesome, fresh ingredients cooked to a turn and simple presentation (we tend to avoid pretentious drizzle). Whether you order a full English breakfast or a few slices of our tender whey-fed pork at dinner, you can expect an honest to goodness, great tasting meal. Our restaurant is in the thatched Manor House and has recently undergone considerable renovation. The Oregon pine ceilings and exposed internal thatch-work give the room a welcoming natural warmth. Add pleasant and helpful service from our team and you have the ingredients for a great night out. Weddings Imagine your wedding on a wine farm, in a stunning Cape mountain valley location, just over one hour’s drive from Cape Town. Your wedding ceremony in a beautiful consecrated chapel (that looks like it belongs in a movie) and your wedding reception in a wonderful multi-beamed ceiling hall spilling out onto wide-open lawns. Then there’s your wedding night in our thatched bridal cottage, complete with large four-poster bed and picture postcard views of the mountains over the water. You can do it all at Manley Wine Lodge. And for a lot less than you may imagine. Going to the chapel Our own non-denominational wedding chapel is used regularly for both church services and weddings. It seats up to 80 people and is the perfect setting for the perfect ceremony. Should you be more than 100 people, we can move outside and arrange a wedding ceremony for a larger number of guests on the lawns with a backdrop of the stunning Winterhoek mountains.
